Vanaf het eerste uur, precies 5 jaar geleden, is Daatje Tielens vrijwilliger bij het Philips Museum.
"Ik bezoek heel graag tentoonstellingen, in Eindhoven, maar ga er ook graag voor op pad, met de trein. Samen met mijn man bezoek ik graag opera in het Parktheater, ik houd van het theatrale en mijn man van de muziek. Ik heb nog tot 27 mei om de ‘American Dream’ te beleven in Assen en Emden. En wat ik niet wil vergeten te noemen is de tentoonstelling van Jeroen Bosch. Die was echt prachtig."
We praten met elkaar in de koffieruimte van het museum, naast de achterdeur van het fabriekje, zoals het ietwat liefkozend wordt genoemd. In de oude fabriek maakt Daatje theater. "Theater maken, dat is wel een heel groot woord voor onze familievoorstelling ‘De Lamp.’ We hebben de sleutel van de achterdeur en Daatje neemt ons mee naar het fabriekje; ‘Dit is de plek die in 1891 in gebruik werd genomen door Philips en waar we kunnen leren hoe in vroegere tijden de gloeilamp werd gemaakt. Het maken van de kooldraden, het vastmaken van de fitting aan de lamp met gips, alle zuurstof uit de gloeilamp halen, het testen hiervan en nog veel meer. Tijdens de schoolvakanties geven wij een voorstelling, waarin dit allemaal te zien is. Deze voorstelling wordt steeds door twee mensen gespeeld, een man en een vrouw. We hebben hiervoor een heel team van vrijwilligers, waarvan ik er een ben. Ik vind de variatie die ik als vrijwilliger heb bij het museum ontzettend leuk. Ik werk als vliegende kiep, hierdoor werk ik op verschillende plekken en ken ik iedereen die bij het museum werkt; dat maakt het juist zo leuk."

From the very beginning, exactly five years ago, Daatje Tielens has been a volunteer at the Philips Museum.
"I like to visit exhibitions in Eindhoven, but I also like to travel to see exhibitions, especially by train. Together with my husband I love visiting the opera at the Parktheater, I love the theatrical and my husband loves the music. Until May 27th the experience the ‘American Dream’ will be held Assen and Emden, not much time left to see this beautiful exhibition. Oh my, what I don’t want to forget to mention is the exhibition of Jeroen Bosch. That was so beautiful."
In the Canteen of the Philips Museum, we’re talking to each other. Just right next to the backdoor of the little factory, as they affectionately call it. In the old factory, Daatje makes theater. "Making theater, that’s quite a big description for the family performance ‘De Lamp’. We have the key to the backdoor and Daatje takes us to the little factory: ‘This is the place that was taken into use by Philips in 1891. Here we can learn how the light bulb was made in the past. The production of the carbon filaments, the attaching of the lamp socket to the lamp with plaster, taking the oxygen out of a lamp, testing it, and many things more. During school holidays we have a performance in which this is all explained. This show is acted out by two people, a man and a woman. We have a team of volunteers to do this, of which I am one. I like the variation this volunteer job brings. It gives me the opportunity to get to know everyone who works at the museum; that’s what makes it just a great place to work."
