Eindhoven tot de verbeelding | Elke Chini
Elke heeft de dagen afgeteld om samen met haar peetoom Ben Chini en peettante Charlotte van den Brand op pad te mogen: “Ik mag overal aan- en op zitten en ik vind de 3D printer heel erg mooi.” De drie hebben bootjes en speelgoed gemaakt en met de 3D printer een letter geprint. Ze willen nog veel meer ontdekken in de Ontdekfabriek. Ben: “Het is een superleuke plek en alles wat je hier doet spreekt tot de verbeelding.” Vandaag viert Elke samen met haar oom en tante haar achtste verjaardag. Charlotte: “We hebben Elke vanochtend opgehaald uit Maasmechelen, België, en hebben een ontdekverjaardagsuitje voor haar georganiseerd. Elk jaar gaan we samen op pad, het is de eerste keer dat we haar meenemen naar de Ontdekfabriek en vinden het hier heel leuk.”
Charlotte en Ben hebben elkaar leren kennen in Eindhoven en wonen en werken in de stad, hij ontwikkeld app’s en zij is grafisch en product ontwerper. Ben: “Eindhoven is inspirerend, met name de Strijp-S omgeving. Charlotte: “We houden van muziek én design; vibes die hier regelmatig te vinden zijn. Ook gaan we graag naar festivals en bezoeken we concerten in het Muziekgebouw. Met ook de Blue Note Sessions natuurlijk, een fijne invullig van de zaterdag-middag.” Echt onder de indruk waren ze onlangs van de Duitse muzikant en componist Nils Frahm. Ben: “Meestal vinden die concerten op donkere en drukke podia plaats, waardoor het nu in de nette zaal van het Muziekgebouw wat vreemd aanvoelde. Maar waar Nils Frahm komt, gebeurt wat, dat komt binnen. Hij is een artiest met ambacht, dat vind ik juist zo mooi.” Voorlopig zijn Elke, Ben en Charlotte nog niet klaar met vieren van de verjaardag. Wat ze gaan doen is nog even een verrassing voor Elke. Op ontdekkingstocht in Eindhoven, spannend!

ELKE CHINI, APPEAL TO THE IMAGINATION
TOUCHED BY CULTURE
Elke counted down the days until she had her day out with her godfather Ben Chini and godmother Charlotte van den Brand: “I get to touch and sit on everything and I really like the 3D printer”. The three have made boats and toys and also 3D-printed a letter. They want to discover so much more in the Ontdekfabriek. Ben: “It’s a fantastic place and everything you do here speaks to the imagination.” Today, Elke celebrates her 8th birthday together with her godparents. Charlotte: “We have picked up Elke this morning from Maasmechelen, Belgium, and organized a ‘discover birthday outing’ for her. Every year, we take her out for her birthday. This is the first year we went to the Ontdekfabriek and we all really enjoy it.”
Charlotte and Ben got to know each other in the city of Eindhoven, the city they live in and work. He develops applications and she is a graphic- and product designer. Ben: “Eindhoven is inspiring, especially Strijp-S and its surroundings”. Charlotte: “We love music and design; vibes that can be found in Eindhoven regularly. Also, we like to go to festivals and visit concerts in the Muziekgebouw. Like Blue Note Sessions, a great way to spend our Saturday afternoons”. Recently, they were really impressed with the German musician and composer Nils Frahm. Ben: “Usually these concerts take place on dark and crowded stages, therefore the location at the Muziekgebouw felt a bit weird. But wherever Nils Frahm comes, something happens and that really touches you. He’s an craftsmen artist and that is what inspires me”. For now, Elke, Ben and Charlotte aren’t done celebrating Elke’s birthday yet. What else they will be doing is still a surprise for Elke. Today is about discovering Eindhoven, such an exciting day!
